MSE in Robotics inaugural graduate Ryan Keating

Ryan Keating is one of the newly minted Robotics MSE graduates from the inaugural class. Ryan, a native of Maine, works in the Software Engineering group at Carnegie Robotics in Pittsburgh. His strong background in mechanical engineering, combined with coursework in artificial intelligence and computer vision that he pursued in the master’s program at the Whiting School, has positioned Keating to make lasting contributions to advanced robotics systems in real world applications.

Ryan says that the Robotics MSE program gave him the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills in robotics, and that the program also greatly strengthened his programming capabilities. Ryan chose the Perception and Cognitive Systems track while in the program. The MSE Robotics program offers additional tracks, including Medical Robotics and Computer Integrated Surgical Systems, Automation Science and Engineering and Control and Dynamical Systems.

As a master’s student in LCSR, Ryan had the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant, enabling him to interact closely with other students in the program. He also found time to play rugby and lacrosse and go on long hikes.
