Peter Kazanzides and Russell Taylor present at FDA Public Workshop

October 27, 2015

Russell Taylor, the John C. Malone Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and Peter Kazanzides, a research professor in that department, made presentations at the Robotically-Assisted Surgical Devices (RASD) Workshop hosted by the Food and Drug Administration in July 2015. Taylor spoke about the “Essential Performance Characteristics of RASD,” and Kazanzides discussed the issues of interoperability.

The workshop aimed to garner feedback from the public on scientific, clinical and regulatory considerations related to Robotically-Assisted Surgical Devices. Participants discussed the key fundamental technological and performance characteristics for a new RASD platform, as well as the issue of interoperability among RASD platforms and other medical devices intended for use with those platforms.
